Camberwell Journeys - A Zine Making Exercise
A zine is a mini book or pamphlet made in really small batches using limited resources.
A lot of zines are made by hand using a single piece of A4 or A3 paper and are usually made as a form of self-expression. They are often very personal to the person or small group that makes them.
These are very strange times we are living in, where the way we move around in our local area, and the world more widely, has changed dramatically. A zine is a really good way to explore our feelings about how our everyday journeys have changed, by using items you can find around your house. You’ll have 6 mini pages, and a back and front cover to write, draw, or make a collage about a journey – this could be a new walk you’ve discovered, a memory of one of your favourite journeys, or you can try making up a new journey, using Google Maps to figure out how you would walk between places.
Making a zine is simple – you’ll need a single A4 or A3 piece of paper, a pair of scissors, and some pens. Use the South London Gallery’s quick and easy guide to folding your zine.
There are so many brilliant and interesting places in Camberwell that you might want include in your journey- if you’re looking for inspiration, you could download the Travel Guide to Camberwell, or look at what venues, places and spaces were included in our A-Z of Camberwell.
