The A-Z of Camberwell: Online Artist Commissions

Brief to Artists

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic Camberwell Arts has made the decision to present our first-ever online arts festival.

Scheduled to run from 13th – 21st June, this year’s Camberwell Arts Festival will now be presented online, providing a space to present new artistic ideas as well as enable the public to participate in a range of creative activities from their living rooms.

We have a small budget to support online installations, exhibitions and performances that explore innovative ways to reach audiences through our website and social media channels, with a particular focus on celebrating Camberwell’s communities during this time of crisis.

From armchair art classes to kitchen sink dramas (in the most literal sense), we’re looking for ideas that celebrate creativity in Camberwell during these uncertain times.  We’ll provide support for quarantine choirs, Instagram gigs, digital dispatches, downloadable artworks and much, much more.

The following grants are available:

Small grants (£250):

Have you had to postpone or cancel existing project plans due to Covid-19?  Or do you have recent material that you’d like to present digitally during the lockdown period?  If so, we’d love to hear from you.  Please send us a brief outline and up to 4 images of the work you would like to showcase online and how you propose to do this. Apply to camberwellartsfestival@gmail.com

Medium grants (£500):

Are you interested in exploring innovative new methods to showcase your art (and the work of other artists) online, whether through live streaming, online showcasing, podcasting or social media channels?  If so, you can apply for a grant to explore these processes further as part of our online art festival.  Tell us what you’d like to do, how you propose to do it and what technical support you’ll need from us.  Please also send your artist’s statement, CV and up to 4 images of previous work. Apply to camberwellartsfestival@gmail.com

Large grant (£1,000):

Are you inspired by existing community responses to the current crisis – from balcony singing in Italy to communal clapping for the NHS?  Do you want to develop new ways to connect our communities online and inspire creativity during the lockdown?  If so, we have funding for projects that inspire moments of social interaction and fun during this period of social distancing.  Tell us what you’d like to do, how you propose to do it and what technical support you’ll need from us.  Please also send your artist’s statement, CV and up to 6 images of previous work. Apply to camberwellartsfestival@gmail.com

If you have already applied for a commission through The A-Z of Camberwell, we will assess how this might be presented as part of an online festival.  You do not need to adjust your application to us.  However, you are welcome to submit a new application in response to this online commissioning opportunity.

Who can apply?

Artists working across all disciplines are invited to apply – as long as the work has the potential to be presented online and / or via social media channels. Apply to camberwellartsfestival@gmail.com

Timescale

The deadline for submitting proposals is 22 April 2020 with successful artists informed by 29 April 2020.  The work must be available to our tech team by 28 May 2020.
