Jasmine Sparrow - jasspa jewellery
More about the artist
Jasmine has been making jewellery since she was a teenager. Pulling earrings apart and rethreading them to make them bigger and bolder - and getting teased by friends for wearing earrings made out of cut-up cans. Learning how to cut shapes from acrylic with a coping saw and pin them together with silver rivets from her dad, she started to experiment with shapes, light and layering.
With an interest in medieval history and art, and garish Tudor outfits, she incorporates motifs from illuminated manuscripts and updates them into something new. If she is feeling in need of inspiration nothing does it like a day out to a National Trust.
Using new acrylic is an obvious concern with today's discussions around plastic use, so she takes care to recycle all off-cuts and fit the pieces as close together as possible to avoid wastage.
