Artist Bio

An experience of an afterimage is caused by a previously seen stimulus, when that stimulus itself is no longer present. Exploring this phenomena, Jan's most recent work is based on 2 found photographs that no longer exist.

More about the artist

In recent years, his work has all - in some way - originated from photographic images.

However the resulting paintings (or, as he now calls them, ‘image objects') are insistently material.  Using oil paint and a variety of media they create complicated surfaces; his objects object to the insubstantiality of our present image world.
