Artist’s Bio
David’s photographs tell stories. The images he makes are allegories for his journey to find places and subjects that give him the closeness to nature he found as a younger man. A narrative is hinted at through horizons or destinations with natural light and shade being critical in reinforcing the construct of images, as is the use of Black and White film. Using a large format camera and film is a slower, more considered approach to picture making. Images are calmer, more settled with content, detail and texture that calls for closer scrutiny.
Prints are made from Polymergravure etching plates, an Intaglio printing process. David uses a traditional flatbed press to make his limited edition prints using archival inks and paper (mostly Somerset satin 300gsm). Prints are signed and numbered in editions of 25 plus 3 artists proofs.
